Press Release: Appointment of New Assistant Coach for TUFC Women's Team

Thimphu, Bhutan – Transport United Football Club (TUFC) is happy to announce the appointment of Ms. Karma Dema from Mongar as the new Assistant Coach for the TUFC Women’s Team. Ms. Dema brings a wealth of experience and a rich footballing history to our team.

Karma Dema, 32, began her football journey 12 years ago. She has played for the Bhutan National Team and coached various clubs. Notably, she made history as the first female coach to lead a men’s team in Bhutan’s top-tier tournament, the BPL 2024.

Completing her Class 10, Karma was awarded a Bhutan Football scholarship to pursue her Class 12 at Rinchen Higher Secondary School. In 2012, she played for the Bhutan National Senior Women’s Team as a left defender, representing the country in the SAF Games in Sri Lanka. Her contributions to the national team showcased her dedication and skill, earning her a reputation as one of Bhutan’s finest defenders.

From 2014 to 2021, Karma embarked on a coaching journey, serving as a focal person for the Bhutan Football Federation (BFF) Development Team. She was assigned to Trashiyangtse district and pursued her A License in football coaching. She then served as the BFF U20 Head Coach at the Gelephu Women’s Academy until 2023. During the same year, she led the U20 team in the SAF Games in Bangladesh and the AFC tournament in Jordan as Head Coach.

In 2024, Karma took on the role of Assistant Coach for Dagana United FC for the BPL 2024 season. Under her guidance, the team qualified, and she was later appointed Head Coach for Tsirang FC during the same season.

President Jigme Tshewang of TUFC expressed his enthusiasm, stating, “We are excited to welcome Karma Dema to the TUFC family. Her extensive experience and proven leadership will undoubtedly strengthen our team. We look forward to seeing the positive impact she will bring.”

Karma shared her thoughts on this new chapter: “I am very thankful to the President and the entire TUFC family for this opportunity. TUFC has been a dream team for me for a long time, and it’s comforting to work with players I have previously coached. I am committed to giving my best to this team.”

In her own words, Karma inspires her team with the motto, “Keep trying till the last whistle; the game is not about 20 minutes.”
