What a Finish! A 6-2 Win Seals the First Leg in Style for Our Girls

Changlimithang Stadium roared with pride as our girls wrapped up the first leg of the BoB Women’s National League with a commanding 6-2 win over Thimphu City Women FC. It was the perfect way to close this phase of the league with back-to-back wins, back-to-back statements.

Saturday Showdown vs UA Women FC (2-0)

Played at Changlimithang Stadium on Saturday, September 6, the match against UA Women FC was nothing short of nerve-wracking. From the first whistle, our girls dominated possession and chances but the UA goalkeeper was in top form, keeping the first half goalless despite relentless pressure.

But we weren’t done. We came out in the second half just as determined. In the 56th minute, Krishna Rani Sakar finally broke the deadlock with a stunning set peace that left the goalkeeper rooted to the spot. The pressure stayed on, and in the 83rd minute, Krishna struck again this time with a brilliant header from a perfectly timed cross by Sangay Wangmo.

The match ended 2-0, with all three points secured. Yeshi Choden was deservedly named Woman of the Match for her solid 90-minute performance, while a special shout-out goes to Rupna Chakma for another clean sheet and a series of clutch saves between the posts.

Tuesday Thriller vs Thimphu City Women FC (6-2)

Fast forward to Tuesday, September 9, the final match of the first leg. Our girls came out with fire and focus, and it showed.

From the opening whistle, we pressed high and controlled possession. In the 22nd minute, Brishana Chaudhary set up Sunita Rai for a classy finish to open the score. Just three minutes later, Sunita turned provider, feeding Krishna Rani Sakar for a cool second goal.

By the 29th minute, the pressure paid off again when Tshering Choden earned a penalty with her blistering pace. Masura Pravin stepped up and slotted the ball into the top corner making it 3-0. But the first half fireworks weren’t over yet. On the 35th minute, Sunita Rai delivered another perfect pass, and Krishna Rani Sakar made it 4-0 with her second of the match.

Thimphu City tried to fight back in the second half, netting two goals, but our girls responded in style.

In the 60th minute, Samjhana Lawati unleashed a rocket from outside the box to make it 5-2. And then, in the 75th minute, Krishna Rani Sakar completed her hat-trick, thanks to a pinpoint corner from, who else, Sunita Rai.
