The familiar grounds of Gyalsey Thang at MTC in Wangdue set the stage for our second clash of the season, this time against the formidable Tensung FC. Let’s be honest, our history against them isn’t exactly filled with victories, and facing them on their home turf has always been a tough ask. Add to that the sweltering Wangdue heat and relentless winds, and the odds certainly felt stacked against us. But you know what? We came with a singular focus: those precious 3 points.
The home team started bright piling pressure on us early on but we did not allow them to settle as in the 3rd minute Fofana messed up a sitter to slot home the opener after a superb abayomi cross. All fofana had to do was tap into the open post but he hit wide.
The first half ended into a tense stalemate, with neither side finding the back of the net. Our custodian, Tobgay, had a quiet opening 45 minutes, while it was clear their keeper was kept far busier, fending off our attacks.
Second half was no less intense as our forwards went on searching for that opening goal coming close at numerous occasion but the Tensung Goalie stayed solid and knocked off all balls directed to his post. A few penalty shouts were ruled out by the officials as Abayomi was brough down in the box and jigdrel was clipped from behind as he was about to puss the trigger. In the 63rd minute, Afeez made his debut for the club replacing another debutant Kalden. This substitution worked in our favour as the opponents knew about the threat Afeez brings to the attack.
In the 83rd minute, Bikash won the ball from a Tensung midfielder and sent in a beautiful through ball to Abayomi. Abayomi pulled it back to afeez who in turn tapped it into the path of oncoming Jigdrel who rocked it into the top netting, giving us the much deserved lead.
We looked to pile on the misery of the home team as fofana came very close to scoring minutes later only to hit wide again. We held on to the lead to come out victorious when the final whistle was blown.
This win put us level on points with the table toppers and the only team yet to concede a goal in the league. Abayomi was awarded the man of the match for his impressive overall performance.
