TASHI DELEK SIKKIM! We are coming back.

In 2020, Transport United FC joined the 9th All India Chief Ministers’ Gold Cup International Tournament, organized by the South District Football Association. The tournament, held in Jorethang, Sikkim, pitted us against formidable opponents: Indian Navy FC, Minerva Punjab FC, and Oil India FC.

Our journey began with a surprising 1-0 victory over Indian Navy FC. The team’s swift, skillful play caught the Navy off guard. Debutant Jigdrel Wangchuk, introduced in the second half, mesmerized the crowd with his agility and creativity, earning the Man of the Match award. The unexpected win and the overwhelming support from the local fans were unforgettable experiences for the team. That day, our team bus was surrounded by enthusiastic fans who wanted to shake hands, take pictures or get an autograph. We were all happily mobbed for the first time in our lives and we enjoyed it!

Our next challenge was against Minerva Punjab FC, the only team in the competition with foreign players to boost their chances. Despite the odds, we emerged victorious, winning 2-1. The roaring crowd in Jorethang fueled our determination and propelled us to the semifinals.

Unfortunately, our journey ended in the semifinals with a 3-0 loss to Oil India FC. A red card early in the game hindered our efforts to recover.

As we bid farewell to Jorethang, the warm reception from the fans was a testament to our team’s performance. The memories of that tournament will forever be cherished.

Now, four years later, we return to Sikkim, this time to Gangtok. We hope to reignite the passion and support of our fans and create new memories at the Paljor Stadium. We earnestly hope that the affection of the Sikkimese people will continue to flourish as it did during our last visit.
