The 2024 Season: A Tale of Triumphs and Trials

Another season of highs and lows has concluded. We finished strong, securing second place on the points table after a five-year hiatus from the top two positions.

The 2024 Bhutan National League kicked off earlier than usual, prompting clubs to begin their preparations early. Our season began with a 2-1 victory over a newly promoted team, though a clean sheet and a larger margin would have been ideal.

Our next challenge was against the defending champions, Paro FC. Despite a 2-0 lead, a red card and a late equalizer left us with a hard-earned point.

A subsequent 4-4 draw against RTC FC, a team that has historically proven difficult for us, was a disappointing result. However, we bounced back with victories over Phuentsholing Heroes FC and the BFF Academy Boys.

A two-game losing streak against Tensung FC and Thimphu City FC dropped us to third place. But we rallied, winning four consecutive matches, including a crucial 1-0 victory over Paro FC.

A 2-1 loss to RTC FC again hindered our title aspirations, leaving us reliant on other teams’ results. However, we maintained our momentum, winning the remaining six games, including a dramatic comeback against Thimphu City FC.

We concluded the season on a high note, defeating Samtse FC 5-1 to secure second place.

Our attack was prolific, with 16 different players scoring a total of 51 goals. Phurba Tenszin led the scoring charts with 12 goals, followed by Tsenda Dorji with 10. Abayomi topped the assist charts with 9, while also contributing 6 goals.

Our goalkeeper, Hari Gurung, was recognized with the Goalkeeper of the Year award.
