Excitement is building as Transport United FC heads to Gangtok, India, for the 40th edition of the prestigious All India Governor’s Gold Cup Football Tournament. This tournament, one of India’s most iconic football events, will unfold in the scenic Paljor Stadium from November 8 to 24, 2024, marking its grand return after a four-year break. This year’s competition is set to be a memorable one, featuring sixteen powerhouse teams from India, Malaysia, Dubai, Nepal, and Bhutan.
For us at Transport United FC, this opportunity is more than just another tournament. It’s about representing Bhutan on an international stage, showcasing our talent, our spirit, and our fierce determination. We’re honored to be the only Bhutanese team invited to the tournament, a testament to our growth and recent stellar performance in the BOB Bhutan Premier League 2024, where we captured the hearts of fans nationwide. And this time, we’re stronger than ever.
The tournament kicks off with Pre-Quarter Matches starting on November 10, welcoming notable teams like Gokulam Kerala FC, Northeast United FC, Sudeva FC, and Diamond Harbour FC. The stakes will be high as each team battles to advance in the tournament. Then, on November 16, we’ll step into the fray, facing the winner of the Sikkim Police vs. Gokulam Kerala FC match in our first game.
For Transport United FC, this isn’t just about participation; it’s about making a statement. Our head coach, Pema, is leading a squad that has been meticulously prepared and is in peak form. In his own words, “We’re here to fight, and no team should expect an easy victory over us.”
The team’s young, dynamic talent combined with our seasoned leadership has created a formidable lineup. Our President, full of pride and determination, recently shared, “We are ready to bring our best. The pressure is high, competing against some of the top teams from India and beyond, but we’re grateful for this platform and the exposure it offers our players.” He expressed deep gratitude to the organizers for extending this invitation, emphasizing the pride and dedication with which we’ll represent Bhutan.
To all those who have watched us rise, both at home and abroad, we’re bringing that same passion and heart to Sikkim. Bhutanese fans who can make it to Gangtok, we know you’ll be cheering, but for everyone back home, your support echoes across every pass, every goal, every roar from the stands.
This tournament is Transport United FC’s chance to show that we are no longer the underdogs. We’re here to dominate, with our fans chanting “Bhutan, Bhutan!” and “Transport, Transport!”
So, mark your calendars, set your alarms, and get ready as the thunder dragon roars in Paljor Stadium. This time, Transport United FC is coming in not just to participate but to compete, to challenge, and to conquer.
